Chapter 1 Ethernet Port Loopback Detection
When configuring Ethernet port loopback detection, go to these sections for information you are interested in:
l Overview
l Configuring the Loopback Detection Function
l Displaying and Maintaining Loopback Detection
1.1 Overview
You may configure the system to regularly inspect ports for loop. This involves enabling port loopback detection and enabling loopback detection in VLANs (up to 800), and setting the detection interval. Once detecting loopback on a port, the switch sends a trap and shut down the port depending on your configuration.
Caution:
l The Ethernet port loopback detection and STP functions are mutually exclusive.
l XP4B and XP4CA cards do not support the Ethernet port loopback detection function.
1.2 Configuring the Loopback Detection Function
Follow these steps to configure the loopback detection function:
To do … |
Use the command … |
Remarks |
Ether system view |
system-view |
— |
Enable global loopback detection |
loopback-detection enable |
Required By default, the global port loopback detection function is disabled. |
Enable loopback detection in the specified VLAN(s) |
loopback-detection enable vlan { vlanlist | all } |
Required |
Set the interval for detecting external loopback |
loopback-detection interval-time time |
Optional |
Enter Ethernet port view |
interface interface-type interface-number |
— |
Enable the control function of port loopback detection |
loopback-detection control |
Optional |
Disable port loopback detection |
loopback-detection disable |
Optional |
Display information about port loopback detection |
display loopback-detection |
Available in any view |
& Note:
l After you use the loopback-detection control command on a port, upon detecting a loopback on the port, the system sends a trap message and shuts down the port.
l After you use the loopback-detection disable command on a port, the port no longer sends loopback detection packets. However, it still processes received loopback detection packets.
