Configuring an email notification service
About this task
An email notification service is used by a module such as information center to send emails to the specified receivers from an email sever when a specific event occurs.
The encryption methods for data transmission between the device and email server include:
· Without encryption—Packets transmitted between the client and server are not encrypted. This method is vulnerable to security risks.
· STARTTLS encryption—Data is encrypted only after the connection between the client and server is established. Packets transmitted during the connection establishment process are not encrypted. After the connection is established, STARTTLS uses SSL or TLS to encrypt data.
· SSL encryption—All packets transmitted between the client and server are encrypted. It is a strong encryption method.
Restrictions and guidelines
The email notification service supports SMTP and SMTPS email servers.
· The device can communicate with an SMTP server without encryption or by using STARTTLS encryption.
· SSL encryption must be used for data transmission between the device and an SMTPS server.
Prerequisites
Configuring a DNS service
If an email server uses a domain name, you must configure a DNS service to translate the domain name into an IP address.
For information and configuration about DNS, see DNS configuration in Network Connectivity Configuration Guide.
Configuring SSL
To encrypt the emails sent from the device, configure SSL. The device acts as the SSL client during email transmission. You must configure an SSL client policy for the device.
For information and configuration about SSL, see SSL configuration in Security Configuration Guide.
Configuring an email notification service
Procedure
1. Enter system view.
system-view
2. Create an email notification service and enter its view.
mail-server server-name
3. Specify an email server by its domain name or IP address.
mail-server host { domain domain-name | ipv4 ip-address | ipv6 ipv6-address } port port [ ssl-client-policy policy-name ]
By default, no email server is specified.
4. (Optional.) Set the username and password for accessing the email server.
mail-server username username password { cipher | simple } password
No username or password is set for accessing the email server.
If client authentication is configured on the email sever, you must configure the same username and password on the server.
Configuring email sending parameters
5. Enter system view.
system-view
6. Enter email notification service view.
mail-server server-name
7. (Optional.) Specify the sender email address.
mail-sender mail-address
By default, no sender email address is configured.
If you execute this command multiple times, the most recent configuration takes effect.
8. Specify the recipient email addresses.
mail-recipients mail-address&<1-4>
By default, no recipient email addresses are configured.
A maximum of four recipient email addresses can be configured for a single execution of this command. You can configure a total of 24 recipient email addresses with multiple executions of this command.
9. (Optional.) Specify the CC email addresses.
mail-recipients cc cc-mail-address&<1-4>
By default, no CC email addresses are configured.
A maximum of four CC email addresses can be configured for a single execution of this command. You can configure a total of 24 CC email addresses with multiple executions of this command.
10. (Optional.) Set the email subject
mail-subject subject-text
By default, no email subject is set.
11. (Optional.) Specify the encryption method for data transmission between the device and email server.
mail-server encrypt-mode { ssl | starttls }
By default, no encryption is used for data transmission between the device and email server.
Displaying configuration information for the email notification service

Testing the availability of the email server
About this task
After you specify an email server for the device, you can use this task to test the availability of the email server. The device will exchange SMTP packets with an SMTP server and SMTPS packets with an SMTPS mail server to test whether the server can provide email services.
Procedure
1. Enter system view.
system-view
2. Enter email service notification view.
mail-server server-name
3. Test the availability of the email server.
