If the supported software features have updates or if the current software version has vulnerabilities that require fixing, use this function to upgrade the AC software.
The software package for the AC includes its software version, versions for some common AP models, and the compatibility matrix for the AC software version with AP versions for all AP models. The AP software version included in this package is known as the default supporting software version.
When AC-AP version consistency is enabled, the AP establishes a CAPWAP tunnel to request association from the AC after startup. The AC then checks the software version running on the AP.
If the AP's software version matches the supporting version, the AP successfully comes online.
If the AP's software version does not match the supporting version, it automatically downloads the supporting version from the AC and performs a version upgrade. Only APs that successfully upgrade can come online.
If the AC has a supporting software version, the AP can download the version from the AC, overwrite the old version, and restart.
If no supporting software version exists on the AC, the AC requests and downloads the supporting software version from Cloudnet.
If Cloudnet has a supporting software version, the AC downloads this version from Cloudnet online. Then, the AP downloads the version from the AC, and restarts to upgrade.
If the AC is not connected to Cloudnet or if no supporting software version exists on Cloudnet, the AC will continually request a download from Cloudnet until it obtains the supporting software version. If the AC consistently fails to download the supporting software version, the AP will remain in a request state and cannot come online.
When AC-AP version consistency is disabled, the AC does not check the software version when an AP starts and requests to come online through a CAPWAP tunnel. The AP can come online directly.

AC software version upgrade supports the following features:
Online upgrade: Upgrade by downloading the administrator-recommended software version from Cloudnet.
Local upgrade: Select the corresponding software version from the local device or upload it from a PC to upgrade.
To use the online upgrade or Cloudnet-based downloading feature, make sure the cloud connection is available. If Cloudnet is in disconnected state, access the System > Network Management > Cloudnet page and configure the cloud connection.
To configure AC-AP version consistency, access the Configure > AP Config page. The priorities of AP-based, AP group-based, and global configurations are in descending order.
From the left navigation pane, select System > Version Upgrade > AC.
Click Online Upgrade and check if a recommended version is available.
If the system prompts that no version is recommended, it indicates that the AC is using the latest version and update is not required. In this case, click Close.
If a recommended version is available, the online upgrade page opens.
Select whether to restart the AC immediately after the update is complete.
Click Submit. The AC automatically downloads the recommended software version from Cloudnet. The system sets the version as the next-startup software version.
From the left navigation pane, select System > Version Upgrade > AC.
Click Local Upgrade.
Select whether to restart the AC immediately after the update is complete.
Select the version:
Select Version from Device: Click the target software version, and then click Next. The system will set this version as the software version used for the device's next startup.
Select Version from PC: Click Upload File, select the software version file from your PC, and then click Next. The system will set this version as the software version to be used when the device next starts.
