About file shares

What are file shares

File sharing is based on network-attached storage (NAS) provided by H3C UniStor X10000 series, ONEStor, or XSKY. File sharing provides high-performance and expandable file sharing storage for multiple hosts (servers or VMs) to access or be mounted with the same file sharing storage system, achieving file sharing between hosts. It supports both NFS and CIFS protocols to provide services for hosts running different operating systems.

Concepts

UniStor X10000 series and ONEStor

Both UniStor X10000 series and ONEStor are distributed storage products. UniStor X10000 series are hyper-converged devices and ONEStor is a pure software product for distributed storage system management.

XSKY

XSKY Global File System (XGFS) is a new generation of the distributed file storage system developed by XSKY. XGFS offers file services with high performance and support for multiple protocols. CloudOS supports collaborating with XSKY products to provide the file sharing service.

File system

A file system is a method of organizing data on a storage medium of an operating system. It organizes and assigns the space of storage devices and controls how files are stored, protected, and retrieved. Specifically, a file system can create, write into, read, modify, move, retrieve, and cancel files of users.

NFS

Network File System (NFS) enables Linux and Unix hosts to share data over the network. NFS uses IP addresses to control user access.

CIFS

Common Internet File System (CIFS) is used for network-based file sharing among Windows hosts. On this system, CIFS uses usernames to control user access.

NAS group

An NAS group is a group of NAS servers in a cluster. When accessing a file system, clients actually access the NAS servers in a NAS group. The NAS servers will store and fetch data from data pools for the clients. NAS groups enable load balancing and improve performance for a cluster.

For more information, see the online help associated with H3C UniStor X10000 or ONEStor.

Storage pool (UniStor X10000 or ONEStor)

A storage pool is a collection of storage resources provided by H3C UniStor X10000 or ONEStor.

For more information, see the online help associated with H3C UniStor X10000 or ONEStor.

Application scenarios

Video processing

File sharing allows multiple clients to access a large amount of video footage simultaneously with the high performance and large capacity of H3C UniStor X10000.

File sharing within enterprises

File sharing offers shared file systems that store documents and data shared among employees of an enterprise.
